A negotiation tip that will surprise you!

When you're having a negotiation, sometimes the best thing to do is
stop talking.

It seems counterintuitive, but Robert Paolini says it's crucial in any
negotiation:

"I think the best thing I can do is let the other person talk first
and me listen to their feelings, their beliefs about what they're
saying, their energy, their tone, tempo, information they're giving
that's not as directly related to the topic, but can help with
negotiations, good or bad.

But you have to seek to understand someone or something.

You have to aim for the goal of a solution and you have to listen to
be able to do that, to be able to come up with a solution and not just
have a one-sided position that you just were really hoping and praying
to get across to the other side."

I think that's good advice for business and for bedtime negotiations.

I'll try that with my eight-year-old tonight.
