There are lots of unwritten work rules. Maybe we need to write them or
say them out loud.
I had to learn one the hard way when one year after my mom and my
daughter's birthday, which were close enough that we used to do joint
birthdays with a big old birthday cake that said "happy birthday,
Grammy and Dessa"
We ate just a small amount of it because they got such a huge cake. So
I thought, well, bring it into work.
Little did I know when you bring in a cake to work, and you put it in
the break room, you better explain what the cake says and why it says
it and why a lot of cake wasn't eaten out of it, because everyone's
asking me, "who's Grammy? Who's Dessa? Why didn't she eat a lot of the
cake? Why was there so much left?"
So I explained it at least 20 times that day.
